Description
Notes – Extremely rare player shirt believed to have been issued to Ooijer in the 1998-99 Champions League campaign. This was the defender’s first full season in the first team squad at the club after signing from Roda JC in January ’98. Ooijer immediately made a good impression on boss Bobby Robson earning his trust to play in 3 out of 8 Champions League games and 21 in the Eredivisie. This home shirt design was worn to this specification in all group home matches and away to HJK Helsinki in this season and was kept on for 99-00 also. PSV had to settle for 3rd place in a tight group, just missing out on a place in the Quarter Finals to Benfica with Kaiserslautern finishing top. The centre back would play Philips Stadion until 2005 and established himself as a regular for the Oranje winning 55 caps and going to four more major international tournaments in total including being part of the team that reached the 2010 World Cup Final
